guitar chair
is it hard to play electric Guitar?

i play second chair trumpet in band, so i have at least a little musical talent. i really want to Learn Guitar, but first i wanna know if it’s hard to learn and how long it usually takes to become decent at it. thanks!

Electric Guitar is just like any other instrument: tough at first, and takes a lot of practice. After a while it’ll click and everything will seem simple to you. Good luck.

Booker's Guitar

Booker’s Guitar

$14.38

The genesis of this deeply moving album was in an almost chance encounter at a London hotel, where Eric Bibb had just played a set. He was approached by a fan with a beat-up guitar case, which turned out to contain a 1930s National steel guitar that had been owned and played by legendary Delta blues legend Bukka White. Bibb was inspired to write a half-spoken, half-sung ode to White, which he then recorded in London using that guitar; the remainder of the album, though inspired by that experience, was recorded in the U.S. on his own instruments and finds Bibb approaching the Delta blues tradition from a variety of highly personal angles. There’s the gospel-inflected blues of “With My Maker I Am One” (which features harmonica player Grant Dermody, and which you won’t realize is inspired by Deepak Chopra unless you read the notes), the possibly (but not necessarily) Katrina-inspired “Flood Water,” a wonderful version of the traditional “Wayfaring Stranger,” and an equally spectacular rendition of the Blind Willie Johnson classic “Nobody’s Fault But Mine.” One of the album’s best and most affecting tracks is an all-too-brief guitar instrumental, a deceptively simple-sounding and decidedly not blues-based piece; another is the gently beautiful “Rocking Chair,” which evokes ’50s doo wop as much as it does the Delta blues. The overall impression given by Booker’s Guitar is that of a richly varied but deeply rooted tribute not just to a particular man, but also to the great tradition he exemplified and the wide variety of musical streams that flowed into it. ~ Rick Anderson, Rovi Performers: Eric Bibb – 9-String Guitar, National Steel Guitar, Guitar (Baritone), Guitar (12 String), Guitar, Vocals; Grant Dermody – Chromatic Harmonica, Harmonica

The Wishing Chair

The Wishing Chair

$9.59

While Natalie Merchant’s elastic vocal cords are the obvious centerpiece of 10,000 Maniacs’ lilting folk-pop, what becomes apparent early on in The Wishing Chair is that the band would likely dry up and drift away like a dandelion if it weren’t for the inventive, wiry guitar playing of Robert Buck. It’s Buck’s instrument that acts as a constant (tin) foil for the spicy mustard goodness of Merchant’s vocal cords, whether he’s laying down the Johnny Marr-style spider riffs of “Grey Victory” and “Scorpio Rising,” or inspiring a thousand private college-based cover bands with “Maddox Table”‘s chorus pedal dynamics. While The Wishing Chair ends up being a little too long, it is nevertheless a sparkling major-label debut, and even bares its incisors a bit alongside more pastoral fare like “Cotton Alley.” The shining “My Mother the War” bounces along on a tensile, new wave-inspired groove that even includes what can only be described as a mirthful whoop from the normally opaque Merchant. The majority of The Wishing Chair underpins the sound that came to define the Maniacs and Merchant’s later solo flight. But when its hackles are raised, it’s like finding out that the teacher’s pet smokes cigarettes behind the school bus. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi Performers: Dennis Drew – Accordion, Piano, Organ; Jerome Augustyniak – Drums; John Lombardo – Bass, Guitar, Guitar (12 String); Natalie Merchant – Voices, Vocals; Robert Buck – Mandolin, Pedal Steel, Guitar (Electric), Guitar (Acoustic), Guitar (Steel); Steve Gustafson – Bass, Guitar (Electric)

The Chair in the Doorway

The Chair in the Doorway

$11.98

Signing with Megaforce indicates a lot of where Living Colour are at on 2009′s The Chair in the Doorway, their first album since their 2004 comeback Collideøscope. Megaforce is known as a metal label and appropriately, Living Colour plays to this audience, getting so heavy they’re often murky, riffs fighting to be heard out of the grinding psychedelic sludge. No matter the tempo, The Chair in the Doorway remains grinding and heavy, crushing the sprightly blues of “Bless Those (Little Annie’s Prayer) under a chorus of thick, leaden guitar and bass, the same sounds that flatten any moment of subtly that tries to rear its head here. However, there is no denying that Living Colour wields some mighty muscle — Will Calhoun and Doug Wimbish provide a locomotive force which Vernon Reid rides vigorously, adding dashes of color when he tears off solos. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi Performers: Doug Wimbish – Ambience, Vocals, Guitar, Bass; Becca De Beauport – Vocals, Keyboards; Corey Glover – Vocals (Background), Vocals; Vernon Reid – Guitar (Electronic), Voices, Vocals (Background), Guitar (Acoustic), Guitar (Electric); Will Calhoun – Toy Piano, Vocals (Background), Drums, Percussion, Keyboards

Jerry is currently on tour in North America supporting Alice In Chain’s first new studio album in over 14 years, Black Gives Way To Blue . Early life Cantrell noted in an interview that he was “raised on country music ” as a youth and that he admires the emotion conveyed in the genre. He also considers himself “half Yankee and half redneck .” However, hard rock music caught Cantrell’s interest predominantly, and he bought his first guitar in his mid teens. It wouldn’t be until the age of 17, however, that he began seriously playing the instrument. Cantrell would later cite musicians like Jimi Hendrix , Heart , Black Sabbath , and Queensrÿche as major influences. Cantrell attended junior high and high school in Spanaway, Washington and was a member of the high school choir which attended many state competitions. Cantrell was president of the choir in his senior year. The quartet would sing the national anthem at basketball games and win competitions with the highest marks achievable. According to Cantrell, his choir teacher and drama teacher were, early on, his two
